My name is Keʻalehoʻokelaokekilokai DeSoto. I am from Mākaha, Oahu, and Iʻve lived there for the past 9 years with my mom and my grandparents. I am originally from Haleʻiwa, but I moved in with my grandparents and have stayed in Mākaha since 2009. Iʻm a senior in high school
My name translates to "the crest of the wave" in Hawaiian. My grandfather tells me that I was named Keʻale because I was born on the same day as The Eddie surf meet at Waimea Bay. Another reason I got this name is because my mom wanted me to have a Hawaiian name, but also wanted it to be a name no one else really had. Hoʻokelaokekilokai, translates to the excellent navigator. This part of my name was given to me by my Aunty Malia when I was 14, because of the navigational skills I possessed at the time, and to make sense with the first part of my name.
